(See Video Below) So I'm gearing up to do some street magic in Guadalajara, Mexico. I've got on my overly tight white pants, a fresh mullet, and a really cool brief case table top. I have little clue what I'm doing, I just know that I need to do it. At this point I'd rather feel rejection than regret. One may sting for a while, but the other lasts forever.
My plan is simple: I'll offer people $1 to watch the 26 cent trick. Or, converting to "Mexican"... 20 pesos to see the 11 baros trick. ("baros" is slang for pesos) That's easy right? The people will come to me! The problem? Nobody is stopping. Well, nobody except local security. In a suspicious tone they asked what I was up to. I asked if they wanted to see the 11 baros trick, they immediately said, "No. We'd rather find out what you've got going on here." I said I was performing magic for people. They replied, "Or for money?" It got a little tense. That's when I pointed out that my sign clearly stated that I was GIVING it away, not asking for it. I then lamented how apparently nobody wants money, and that perhaps I'll just change my sign to say, "Free Magic". After a short back and forth, without me even asking, the main guard said with a smile on his face, "Well, let's see the trick then c'mon!" By the end, we all had a laugh. I didn't die. Nobody got hurt. Any fears of getting booed, heckled, or kicked out had vanished. It's like that quote attributed to Mark Twain, “I have known a great many troubles, most of which never happened.”
